Yes, yes, we know Miley Cyrus “Can’t Be Tamed,” but will her less childish image help her play dark and dramatic?
The Disney star is attached to topline the paranormal thriller “Wake,” based on the young adult novel by Lisa McMann, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Paramount Pictures and MTV Films adaptation centers on 17-year-old Janie (Cyrus) who somehow gets pulled into strangers’ dreams without her consent. Most people dream the usual: flying, sex fantasies, wish fulfillment. But when Janie gets sucked into a nightmare, she is no longer just a witness to the action … she’s a participant.
It’s possible that this could become a good film franchise for Cyrus since there are two novel sequels — “Fade” and “Gone” — that MTV Films has already snapped up.
Cyrus, who turns 18 in November, has already starred in the adapation of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Last Song” to tepid reviews. The young adult fantasy novel “Wings” has been also optioned for a starring vehicle for her.
