On Thursday (Dec. 8), “Good Morning America” aired the first clip from their exclusive interview with Mindy McCready, the country singer who was found hiding in a closet earlier this week after allegedly abducting her five-year-old son from Florida and taking him across state lines to Arkansas.
“He was screaming, ‘Please don’t touch me, please don’t touch my mommy,'” says McCready of the moment U.S. Marshals found her and son, Zander, hiding in the closet of her boyfriend’s vacation home.
The country singer says she is in a much better place than she was in 2010 when she landed on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” and was struggling to put her life back together while Zander was in the custody of her parents.
When asked if she knowingly broke the law by taking Zander from her parents home, McCready said: “I do not to this moment and will not ever think that me taking my own child that I gave birth to after carrying for 9 months is breaking the law.”
Zander is currently with a foster family while the court works out the next steps, but McCready — who is also seven months pregnant with twins — is confident the judge will rule in her favor.
More clips from the interview will air on Friday’s “GMA” and stay tuned for the full interview — apparently McCready will open up about her family’s “deep dark secrets” — on Friday’s “20/20.”
