It was a great night for Erin Brady, as Miss Connecticut was crowned the 2013 Miss USA. When all was said and done, there were two finalists left, Connecticut and Alabama.
They were narrowed from from a Top 6, rather than the standard Top 5. The change this year came about after the pageant introduced a new twist. Viewers were allowed to tweet their support of one of the Top 10, ensuring they would move forward to the final round.
That twist led to Miss Texas going to the finals, even though she didn’t get the necessary votes from the judges. Each of the final six contestants answered the “Final Question.” Brady came across the best with her answer to a question regarding DNA testing for criminals after they have been arrested. Brady agreed with the Supreme Court on the issue, supporting the testing and sounding like she knew what she was talking about.
Now, Brady moves onto the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Moscow for 2013. Should she win, as 2012 Miss USA Olivia Culpo did, the USA crown will be passed onto runner up Mary-Margaret McCord, Miss Alabama.
