All the ads for Wednesday’s (April 14) “Modern Family” have focused on a youth-league basketball game involving Manny (Rico Rodriguez), Luke (Nolan Gould) and their respective fathers. But there’s another story in the episode that has us intrigued too.
Not that the promos haven’t been funny. Phil (Ty Burrell) naming his fists “The Captain” and “Tennille”? Gold. So is the idea of excitable Dharma Initiative head of research Stuart Radzinsky — or, OK, Eric Lange, the actor who played Radzinsky on “Lost” — as the boys’ hoops coach.
What you haven’t seen in ABC’s ads, though, is a subplot involving Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) adjusting to the fact that Mitchell is now between jobs. As you’ll see in the clip below, neither one is exactly taking to the new arrangement. You’ll also see Ferguson and Stonestreet continue to deliver the best talking-head segments in the show, including Mitchell’s homicidal urges toward a certain beloved children’s show character.
“Modern Family” airs at 9 p.m. ET Wednesday on ABC.
