“Dads” isn’t going away. The critically despised FOX comedy starring Seth Green and produced by Seth MacFarlane has gotten an order for six additional scripts.

This isn’t a renewal or full-season pick-up yet, but extra scripts mean that FOX is planning to keep the show around for at least a little while longer. Could “Dads” end up with a full season on the network?

It’s still hard to say on that one. The show hasn’t been doing that well in ratings — this past week’s episode got 3.1 million viewers and a 1.3 in the demo (according to And it’s not like FOX won’t give early pick-ups and renewals to those shows that are doing great. “Sleepy Hollow” is a perfect example of this.

Still, the extra script order is a good sign for the longevity of “Dads,” a far better sign than the show has had so far in its short and notorious run. Critics were nearly universal in their hatred of the comedy, with Rotten Tomatoes showing it at a 0 percent as far as criticism is concerned. Most cited offensive racism and general lack of anything funny as the reason for the negative review. Not even an excellent cast — including Green, Giovanni Ribisi, Martin Mull and Peter Riegert — could lift opinions.

But that means little where the network is concerned. Obviously.
