After years of so many reality shows and more scripted series, the music stations are returning to what made them vital on Independence Day.
They will feature videos throughout the day, beginning at 6 a.m. Emerging artists will get a showcase in the stations’ inaugural “Music Independence Day” and be shown with famous artists.
Starting Wednesday, June 12 emerging artists can try to get onto the stations by claiming a page on the Artist Platform — for MTV, for CMT, or for VH1.
Those artists will have their music and videos considered for MTV, CMT and VH1. Even those who don’t get picked, will be able to drive audiences to their pages via social networks and #MusicIndependenceDay, where they can invite listeners to purchase music, leave tips or otherwise show their support.
“We want to let fans discover and really love up musicians, give a tip, buy them a beer or simply send a message of support,” Van Toffler, President of Viacom Music Group, says in a prepared statement. “We have a history of introducing new artists, celebrating our audiences’ favorite established superstars and providing a forum for all to reveal their influences and the stories behind their music.”
“So we’re going to celebrate the music, let musicians get heard, promoted, and loved,” he continues. “That ain’t all bad.”
Videos will be shown in blocs, and the party atmosphere will be tailored for each station. Stations were asking stars to tape July Fourth messages, and talk about what emerging artists have caught their attention.
Taylor Swift videos will be on all three stations.
MTV is going for a block party theme. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Bruno Mars, Ke$ha and Justin Timberlake will be shown on MTV.
At VH1, Jim Shearer hosts “VH1’s Top 20 Video Countdown’s ” and Maroon 5, Alicia Keys and Pink videos will be played. That night VH1 runs “Philly 4th of July Jam,” with performances from The Roots, John Mayer, Jill Scott and Demi Lovato.
Over on CMT: Carrie Underwood, Hunter Hayes and Luke Bryan will be played as the country station culminates its BBQ Week.”
