nancy odell Nancy O'Dell talks joining 'ET' and leaving 'Access,' doesn't hold anything backA few weeks ago it was announced that former “Access Hollywood” anchor Nancy O’Dell would be replacing Mary Hart on “Entertainment Tonight.” O’Dell quit her job at “Access” last December, but in an interview with The New York Post, she says it wasn’t planned: “I’m sure ‘Access’ wouldn’t have let me out of my contract if they had known.”

]]> “The Insider’s” host Lara Spencer would get the job and there were reports that “ET” executive producer Linda Bell Blue was telling her to move to L.A. with the promise of landing the job. An industry insider reveals it was CBS boss Les Moonves’ decision to go with O’Dell, who he believed had the best celebrity contacts.

“I had feelers out there and had taken meetings,” O’Dell admits, but says she wasn’t promised the “ET” job. There’s been speculation over what the reasons were behind O’Dell’s “Access” departure. Though O’Dell doesn’t cop to claims of “unhappiness at her former gig,” she does admit she was ready for a change.

“It didn’t feel like the right fit anymore. I think after you reach a certain level of maturity and a certain point in your career and you know what you want and what you feel good about, you know when it’s time to make a change,” she says.

O’Dell also reveals some of the reasons behind her decision to accept the “Entertainment Tonight” top job. “The people feel right, the executives feel right, the fellow correspondents feel right, the way the show is — the classiness — feels right,” she says. “It was such a great confirmation. Yeah, I felt I made the right decision.” We’re guessing she didn’t send a Christmas gift to former co-anchor Billy Bush?

O’Dell is extremely happy at “ET”, saying it “felt weirdly like home,” and jokes, “Everybody already thought I worked at ‘Entertainment Tonight’ anyway.”
