ABC is getting into the music business this fall with “Nashville,” which uses the title city’s country music industry as a backdrop.
Critical darling Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights,” “American Horror Story”) stars in the drama as Rayna James, a former chart-topping singer whose career has hit a rough patch, until her label proposes a “co-headlining” tour with a young star (Hayden Panettiere, “Heroes,” “Scream 4”). Think Taylor Swift, but without the humility.
It also works in politics — Rayna’s husband (Eric Close) wants to run for mayor — and a healthy dose of family drama between Rayna and her father (Powers Boothe). “Thelma and Louise” writer Callie Khouri created the series, and R.J. Cutler (“The September Issue”) directed the pilot.
