After much bloodshed in the battle of the late night talk shows, NBC is trying to clear its name with its fall slate of new and returning shows. If you’d like a taste, watch their fall preview above.
While there’s a lot of buzz about “The Event,” its use of flashbacks and forwards are reminiscent of the now-canceled ABC series, “FlashForward.” It, too, had a much buzzed about pilot, but lost its way as the season progressed. “The Event” does draw some producing talent from well-built shows like “24” and “Friday Night Lights,” so we have high hopes that they’ll pull through the season.
Undercovers” is also one of NBC’s fall promises of greatness that needs to be kept. Its pilot starts with a sleepy first half, but picks up fairly well after that. With a talented cast and leads that aren’t hard to look at, executive producer J.J. Abrams (“Alias,” “Lost”) seems to have a formula that can work for the spy thriller.
On the other hand, there’s “Outsourced,” the network’s sitcom based in a Mumbai, India call center. The media can’t seem to fight their groans when it’s mentioned.
Of course, there’s bright light in NBC’s returning shows, such as the sleeper hit “Chuck” and the reliable “Law and Order: SVU,” as well as it strong sitcom force of “30 Rock,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Community” and “The Office.”
