A man was shot in a Nevada movie theater Tuesday (Aug. 14) — by his own gun. The accident resulted in a bullet lodging in the man’s buttocks.

The 56-year-old man, whose name has not been released, attended a showing of “The Bourne Legacy” with approximately 30 other patrons in Sparks, Nev. According to NBC News, a gun dropped out of the man’s pocket and then shot him in the buttocks when it hit the floor. No other shots were fired, and only a few of the other theater-goers even reported hearing the noise.

Following his self-inflicted injury, the shooter apologized to the theater and left the building before police arrived. Authorities only caught up with the man when he sought treatment for the wound at a hospital in Reno. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Police investigating the case have stated that, while the man did have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, he might still be charged with a misdemeanor for firing the gun in public.
