James Spader’s Ultron might be the devilish new villain of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” but he’s not the only newcomer to look forward to.
In the above behind-the-scenes featurette, director Joss Whedon introduces the “massively important new characters” Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch — and their powers — with the help of the actors who play them, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively. The twins, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, were orphaned at 10 “when a shell collapsed their apartment building,” and, according to Taylor-Johnson, it’s “just them against the world.”
“Quicksilver is very fast — as fast or almost as fast as The Bullet,” says Whedon. “Scarlet Witch, [she’s] got telekinesis, she can move things, and she can get inside your head so that all your worst fears or doubts come to the fore.”
Olsen adds that her character’s powers are so intense that the Avengers are forced to leave for some unknown place so that they can regroup and figure out how to take action. But considering Chris Evans states in the video that “it does take a while to figure out who can be trusted and who can’t,” there’s still great possibility that, just because they start out as the Avengers’ enemies, it doesn’t mean it will stay that way.
