“New Girl” has its big Super Bowl episode coming up, and who better to dish on the Prince guest appearance than Hannah Simone? The actress behind Cece had plenty to say when she talked to Zap2it about “Party Time,” romances, Winston’s cat and more.

Zap2it: What was the cast’s reaction to the Super Bowl episode?
Hannah Simone: I think we were just so excited. We were so excited when we found out we got the spot, and then to find out who was coming to support us and to be in the episode, it feels like a dream. It’s amazing.

Is Prince a “New Girl” fan?
I know his band was a fan. I think he also had seen the show, but I don’t want to say anything that might not be true. But I do know that his band were huge fans, because we all sat and talked about their favorite moments. It was great. We had a wonderful time shooting, and he was so funny. He has an incredible sense of humor.

Will we see him perform?
I think so. I don’t know how it’s going to be cut, but we got to see him perform.

And what is that like?
Amazing! I’ve seen Prince before, but it’s different when you’re two feet away. It’s incredible.

What’s going on in Cece’s relationship with Coach?
I think it’s something we’re exploring, because they kind of have to figure out what their dynamic is, because they obviously have an attraction because they went on the date. They made out a little bit. But it’s a little complicated, right, because Coach and Schmidt are friends, and Cece and Schmidt have finally developed their friendship, so you don’t want to mess anything up. So that’s dealt with.

It’s been interesting for us to kind of figure out the balance of it and the challenges of when that happens in a group of people, when two people aren’t together anymore and someone new comes in and you have to deal with different feelings, I guess.

Do you want Cece or Jess to find a permanent love on “New Girl”?
I trust [the EPs and writers] so implicitly because they don’t try to force anything into what I think we all believe. There can be a formula — or a sense of predictable comfort — sometimes in comedy, and I’m always surprised week to week when we read an episode. Like, “This happened? That happened?”

I mean, I think that’s the thing. We never really know what’s going to happen. It never really feels forced. It never feels rushed. It never feels like, “Oh, this is the time in a sitcom where this is supposed to happen.” We kind of just let the family grow. So I really don’t know where it’s going to end up, but I’m excited.

What is your opinion on Winston and his cat?
He’s so weird. It’s great.

What is your dream Cece storyline?

I really wanted Cece to be able to work at the bar, and I never talked about it, and then they wrote that she gets a job working at the bar! So I’m just going to keep on sending out good thoughts and see what happens, because it seems to be working. It’s fun to work at the bar.

The “Party Time” episode of “New Girl” airs Sunday (Feb. 2) after the Super Bowl, likely starting about 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 PT.
