On the show, judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay blogger, asked whether she believes in gay marriage.
Miss California replied, "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."
She believes her answer cost her the crown.
"It did cost me my crown," Prejean said of her response on Billy Bush's show..
"I wouldn't have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an
opinion that was true to myself and that's all I can do."
Keith Lewis, who runs the Miss California competition, tells FOXNews.com that he was "saddened" by Prejean's statement.
"As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman," Lewis said in a statement. "I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family."
What do you think? It's her opinion. And there's still free speech, right?
Besides, she told Billy Bush on Access Hollywood that her sister is a second lieutenant in the Air Force and a gay-rights activist. But she is not gay.
Carrie told Bush that her sister told her, "Sis, I’m not offended by anything that you said. We have two different opinions and I love you because of it. I love you because you stood up for what was right, and it’s not a matter of being gay or not gay, it’s a matter of you competing for Miss USA and getting a question and answering it to the best of your ability.”
