Oprah sure is, and she’s got a new promo to tell us why.
First posted by the New York Times, alongside an interesting look at how Discovery Communications is promoting the new cable channel, the advertisement starts playing in movie theaters Friday, Dec. 3.
So is there an appropriate amount of cinematic grandeur? If you measure grandeur in balloons, most definitely.
Colorful balloons, both real and computer-generated, float across iconic American landscapes while Winfrey distinctive voice-over alludes to the kind of programming that’s in store for viewers.
“What if I could take every hero that inspired me,” Winfrey asks, “every lesson that motivated me, every opportunity that was ever given to me, and give it to you?”
Well, for starters, we’d have a network of our own to program.
The spot ultimately pans up to the heavens, where Oprah addresses us in front of a balloon-dappled cloudscape. The message is vague but clear:
Oprah’s in the driver’s seat, so buckle up.
