It was announced Tuesday (Oct. 30) that the Walt Disney Company has purchased Lucasfilm LTD from filmmaker George Lucas for just over $4 billion. The purchase includes the rights to the “Star Wars” franchise, the “Indiana Jones” movies and ownership of Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound. Disney has plans to make at least the final three “Star Wars” installments, episodes 7, 8 and 9.
And at least three actors tied in to the “Star Wars” franchise are excited.
Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in the original trilogy, tells TMZ, “I have no doubt Disney will respect and continue the legacy of Lucasfilm. I have worked with Disney for many years during their Star Wars Weekends celebration and seen how much they love the films and the fans.”
He also cites Disney’s treatment of Stan Lee’s “Avengers” characters and adds that Disney “has an excellent track record for listening to the creator’s voice.”
Ahmed Best, the voice of Jar Jar Binks, also chimes in, telling TMZ, “George has always been a hero and a mentor. I am happy that the saga will continue.”
Finally, Daniel Logan, who played young Boba Fett in 2002’s “Attack of the Clones,” says, “I think Disney acquiring Lucasfilm is a wonderful thing! There are exciting times ahead for ‘Star Wars’ fans.”
What do you think, ‘Star Wars” fans? Are you excited about episodes 7, 8 and 9 being made?
