ew henry cavill New 'Superman' Henry Cavill takes the cover of EW, talks putting on the suitIt’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s new “Superman” Henry Cavill already on the cover of Entertainment Weekly!

Well, that was fast. It was announced less than a month ago that “Tudors'” star Cavill would be donning the iconic cape in a reboot of the Superman franchise. Now in his first interview since being cast as the Man of Steel, Cavill talks about his audition, which included a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s Superman suit. No pressure or anything.

Cavill was nervous because he had just finished “The Cold Light of Day,” a film which required him to shed all the muscle tone he had put on for a previous part. (Sounds like Christian Bale before his Batman audition, no?)

He recalls his reaction when he was putting on the suit (with the hep of an assistant): “All I could think was, ‘Oh, god.
They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going, ‘You’re not ready! You’re not

Director Zack Snyder obviously didn’t agree. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off, that’s an awesome achievement,” he says. “He walked out and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, ‘Wow.’ Okay, this was Superman.”
