“I’ve had a chance to do a lot of great things in my career and my life, but this is the one thing that, more than any other, I look forward to,” Nick said during his co-hosting gig. “The fact that it’s actually here, it’s overwhelming.”
The couple, who married in July 2011, don’t know the sex of the baby yet, but they will find out before little Lachey is born.
“We definitely want to know,” he says. “I can’t take the knowledge that someone out there knows, but I don’t know. It’s like watching a sports game on TiVo.”
Yet they’ve already started thinking about names, he tells Kelly Ripa.
“I think we may have to steal ‘Sophia’ from you [since that’s Vanessa’s first choice]. If it’s a boy, we’re not really sure yet. If I have a son first, he’s going to be named Colin [is what I used to think]. Now Colin, it’s not a good name [to Vanessa]. It’s a tough thing, these names.”
Even tougher was keeping the pregnancy a secret, since photos of Vanessa and her burgeoning baby bump had been surfacing recently.
“You find out you’re pregnant and it’s the most exciting news, and yet you’re not supposed to tell anyone for three months. I had to keep this secret for three months,” Nick says.
And in inappropriate mirror image news: Nick’s ex-wife, Jessica Simpson, is due with her own baby any day — the duo also announced their engagements around the same time in November 2010. Meh, whatever. They’re both happily with other people now with babies on the way. Congrats!
