Nicki Minaj stops by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Tuesday (Jan. 15) to talk about her new “American Idol” gig, including the feud with fellow new judge Mariah Carey.

“It’s very strenuous if you’re not ready for it,” says Minaj, of taping “Idol”. “When I did my first taping I thought we would be in there for two or three hours. Then the sun started going down and I realized I should bring a camping bag and some pillows. I was just like, ‘Ah! What did I sign up for?’ It was crazy.”

As for the so-called “feud,” Minaj says:

“It was just two big ol’ divas I guess. I was just sitting there and I guess before I went in there I heard all the stuff that was being said [about Mariah not liking Nicki on the panel], but I didn’t believe it.

I went there and I kind of started feeling a little bit of like the shade and I overcompensated by being crazier. You know if someone doesn’t like you, now you’re like really gonna go in and show – hey. It’s a defense mechanism. You compensate with being crazy.

I can’t hold a grudge against Mariah Carey. I’ve looked up to her for so many years, since she came out … I don’t knwo if she’s gotten over it, but I have. I’m cracking up laughing and having fun. Is she still holding a grudge? I don’t know, I can’t care.

You know what, I’m not looking forward to live shows … I cannot trust myself. Just like if there’s a comment being made. I just want it to go well. It’s about the contestants, we got a lot of great talent. I don’t want anyone on the panel to say something crazy ’cause I don’t want to look like a crazy psycho again. I’m not a crazy psycho, you guys!”

Should be a lot of fun. “American Idol” premieres Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
