nurse jackie renewed united states of tara canceled showtime 'Nurse Jackie' revived for Season 4, 'United States of Tara' killedIs there any balance in the TV universe when one of our favorite gals gets another season, but another ceases to go on? No, not to us.

A Showtime rep confirms to Zap2it that the network is doing exactly that by picking up a fourth season of “Nurse Jackie,” while ending “United States of Tara” after just three seasons as first reported by Deadline.
Apparently, “Nurse Jackie,” which earned star Edie Falco an Emmy, averages 2.8 million viewers weekly and 762,000 viewers during its Monday night premieres.

“Tara,” which also garnered lead actress Toni Collette an Emmy, has dropped in weekly viewership from 2.7 million last season to the current 1.9 million. Additionally, the series has only been attracting 326,000 viewers to its Monday night premiere episodes, a drop from 558,000 in Season 2.

It’s especially sad to say goodbye to Tara now as this season finds her battling to free herself from a particularly evil new alter and finds the rest of the family exploring new career paths and having their own families or budding relationships amid the challenge of Tara’s disorder. These characters always had a lot of fight in them.
Nevertheless, we urge you to watch the final episodes as we found them very powerful. And now that we know that they’ll serve as this season’s last chapters, we have an all-new appreciation for the season’s finale.

Thoughts on Showtime’s choices?
