The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is reverting back to the traditional phrase, “And the winner is …” to hand out the coveted Oscars statue, instead of using the non-competitive phrase “And the Oscar goes to …” that’s been in practice for the past 22 years, reports The Wrap.

Apparently, the show’s presenters have been using the old phrase during the rehearsals at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It’s possible that the phrasing may change at the last minute for the telecast, but there would be no point to rehearse with the old phrase then in the first place.

“And the winner is …” seems rather appropriate this year considering the Academy increased the race to 10 films vying for best picture this year. That sounds like a competition alright.

The 82nd Academy Awards broadcasts live on Sunday, March 7 from Hollywood at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on ABC — unless you’re a Cablevision subscriber in New York.
