paranormal activity 3 mirror 'Paranormal Activity 4' is officially a go“Paranormal Activity 3” cost a reported $5 million to make and earned more than $200 million at the box office worldwide. So it should be no surprise at all that Paramount has given the green light to a fourth movie in the horror franchise.

The studio made the official announcement Tuesday (Jan. 3) in a press release detailing its roster of 2012 films, which also includes “World War Z,” “GI Joe: Retaliation” and Sacha Baron Cohen’s “The Dictator.”

Other than the fact that it’s on the docket for this year, Paramount has little else to say about the story or who will be involved in making “Paranormal Activity 4.” Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman directed the third movie, which delved into the past of sisters Katie (Katie Featherston) and Kristi (Sprague Grayden), who starred in the first two films.

Joost and Schulman say they’d be happy to take the reins of the new movie, joking that they have ideas for an even further flashback: “It’s going to be just drawings — calligraphy and watercolors,” Joost tells MTV News. “And set in the 1800s.”
