paris hilton fake tweet nelson mandela response Paris Hilton slams fake Nelson Mandela tweet: 'Get a life'

Paris Hilton isn’t taking kindly to a tweet she supposedly posted in the wake of Nelson Mandela‘s death. In the tweet that the former reality TV star allegedly “quickly deleted,” she confused the South African anti-apartheid activist with Martin Luther King, Jr.

It was pretty clear at the time that the tweet was a fake, but Hilton has come out officially to confirm that it was in fact a hoax. She says she was flying to Miami when news of Mandela’s death broke, so she was a bit late to actually seeing her supposed tweet.

“Whoever made that stupid fake tweet lacks respect to the loss the world is mourning right now. Same goes for all the blogs who ran with it,” she posts. “I’m so sick of people lying about me & using my name . Please get a life & stop talking about mine. It’s beyond. #URPathetic #GetYourOwnLife.”

According to Buzzfeed, the fake tweet originated from Twitter account @DeletedTweets. That site will post images of tweets that are allegedly quickly deleted by the celebrities who posted them, with the claim that this account managed to catch the tweet just in time to make it sharable as an image. Let’s just assume from now on that if a tweet seems too ridiculous to believe and you can’t actually find the source of it, it probably didn’t really happen.

As for Hilton, she has her own real message to share after Mandela’s passing.

“Just landed & heard the sad new about Nelson Mandela,” she tweets. “He was a true Hero & the world is a better place because of him. May he rest in peace.”
