One of the more memorable guest stars in “Parks and Recreation” history returns in Thursday’s (Feb. 10) episode. Megan Mullally makes her second appearance as Ron’s (Nick Offerman) ex-wife, Tammy, and craziness ensues.
“They tell me it’s quite something,” Offerman told Zap2it when we visited the “Parks” set in December. “I honestly don’t remember much of what took place during the filming of that episode [which was shot last spring], because it was like a crazy peyote fever dream. I remember there was lots of howling, and I came away very sore and scarred. Parts of my anatomy were alarmingly chafed. They say it turned out well. I’m excited to see it.”
We’re not entirely sure to what degree Offerman is joking there, but “crazy peyote fever dream” is not a bad way to describe the episode, “Ron & Tammy: Part Two.” At least he had his wife by his side: He and Mullally have been married for the past seven-plus years.
Offerman and Mullally have acted opposite each other a few times, and he says they’ve never encountered any tension being on set together.
“I’d think there would be more downside,” he says. “I feel like I’ve heard stories of [actors] working with their spouses, and the things you can say to each other become difficult in a professional setting. But we just have a great time. We both love telling a good story, and to get to do it together is really a lot of fun.”
And, as you can see in the clip below and in Thursday’s episode, neither of them is really afraid to let go in the other’s presence.
“We also love, I think, pushing the envelope and testing our boundaries — both of physical ability and good taste,” Offerman says. “It’s something we revel in, getting to push the envelope together.”
“Parks and Recreation” airs at 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday on NBC. Here’s a preview:
