]]>But Michele Jones, a special Pentagon assistant to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, released a statement through the White House Monday night that she never said or implied she would get the couple into the Nov. 24 White House dinner.
“I specifically stated that they did not have tickets and in fact that I did not have the authority to authorize attendance, admittance or access to any part of the evening’s activities,” Jones said. “Even though I informed them of this, they still decided to come.”
However the Salahis– who say they are “devastated, very saddened, shocked” by all the false accusations, say they have email proof that they were invited.
They never clearly say who invited them but insist they are proud to be working with the Secret Service’s investigation, whom they respect as much as they do the president.
When Matt pressed them on the report about them also being kicked out of a Black Caucus Foundation event on Sept. 26, they denied crashing that event. “Yes, we were invited,” says Tareq, adding that this “another false accusation.”
WTTG-TV, the Fox affiliate in Washington, has reported that the Salahis did crash a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Awards dinner at which Obama spoke. A Foundation rep says the Salahis were escorted out by security guards being caught sitting at a table.
“Were we escorted out? Of course not.”
The couple wraps it up by saying they are certain they will be exonerated. Well hopefully not too fast because the gate crashers sure are the gift that keeps giving.
