patrick duffy wants step by step reunion tgif abc Patrick Duffy wants to have a 'Step by Step' reunion

Ah, nostalgia for the ’90s, that bygone era when rock stars wore flannel and Friday nights were for cheesy sitcoms! It now seems that we could get a reunion for TGIF mainstay, “Step by Step.” One of its stars, Patrick Duffy, is apparently all for bringing the Lambert-Foster clan back together.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Duffy revealed his idea for bringing “Step by Step” back. “I would love to work with Suzanne [Somers] again,” Duffy said. “The ‘Step by Step’ cast was so wonderful to be with. They were my family, and I think a little two-hour special about where these people are — not a documentary but actually doing a show — seeing where they all come to over the years. It would be so fun to play that goofy Frank Lambert character again, aging another 25 years.”

Obviously, Duffy has been thinking about this.

It makes sense in some ways, considering that the actor has recently reprised his role of Bobby Ewing on the reboot of “Dallas.” Nostalgia for old roles just has to be at a high. When you combine that with the recent passion for departed programming — “Boy Meets World” is getting an updated special and possible TV series, while the “Veronica Mars” fan-backed Kickstarter campaign for a movie has been breaking records left and right — it might very well be time for “Step by Step” to make a return.

In case you had forgotten, “Step by Step” was a “Brady Bunch”-like sitcom about a large blended family. Frank Lambert (Duffy) was a single dad to three kids who married Carol Foster (Somers), a single mother of three, after a whirlwind courtship. The large and bickering family mined comedy gold for seven seasons between 1991 and 1998.

One of the best parts of this idea: If “Step by Step” were successful, we could hold out hope for “Full House” and “Family Matters” reunions too. TGIF forever!
