“American Idol’s” latest eliminated contestant Paul McDonald appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Friday night (April 15). He first tells Jay Leno that he just felt like it was his time to leave the show.
“I woke up yesterday and I was like, ‘You know, I think this is about time for me to cruise out,'” says Paul. “I’ve had a good run, ya know, I felt like I did what I needed to do but for some reason I felt like tonight’s the night.”
McDonald also reveals he was previously studying biomedical sciences at Auburn University with the plans of becoming a pediatric dentist. Huh. That is the most interesting “Idol” news we’ve heard in awhile. Who knew?
Finally, he jokes that he’s been dating “Twilight” star Nikki Reed for “like three years.” After the short interview, Paul jammed out on “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Maggie Mae,” “I Think That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” “Old Time Rock ‘n Roll” and “Tracks of My Tears” with Ricky Minor and the Band.
Later in the broadcast, actress Leslie Mann told Jay about how she was voting for Paul, but now that he’s gone, she’s going to vote for “that Seth Rogen guy.”
