paula deen dropped food network Paula Deen dropped from Food Network after racist N word admission

Don’t expect to see Paula Deen on the Food Network in the near future. Following her admission of using the racist slur “n*****” in the past, the cooking channel has opted not to renew its contract with Deen going forward.

“Food Network will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month,” it says in a statement.

This news comes after Deen released her own personal statement about her use of the racist term. “The color of your skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter to me. But it’s … what’s in the heart, and my family and I try to live by that,” she says in a video apology. “I am here to say I was wrong.”

Deen revealed her racist past during a deposition in relation to a sexual harassment lawsuit from a former manager of her restaurant, Paula’s Oyster House. When asked if she ever used the N-word, Deen answered, “Yes, of course, though she later added, “Things have changed since the 60s in the South” and said her brother and children “object to that word being used in any cruel or mean behavior. As well as I do.”
