penny dreadful comic con showtime 'Penny Dreadful' at Comic Con 2014: Creator John Logan teases Season 2
With a room packed to the rafters with fans, “Penny Dreadful” made its San Diego Comic-Con debut. The first season of the Showtime series has come to a close and creator John Logan, along with stars Josh Hartnett, Reeve Carney and Harry Treadaway were there for a much-deserved victory lap.
It didn’t take Logan long to start spilling secrets about Season 2, though. The most important thing to note is that Madame Kali (Hellen McCrory) will be the main antagonist. For Logan, the decision is extra special because it gives him a villain to write dialogue for, unlike the vampire. With her, Ferdinand will also be around more often, with Simon Russell Beale joining the cast.
A deleted scene shown to the crowd of Kali and Ferdinand discussing Vanessa. Kali ends it by saying a showdown between her and Miss Ives is coming and one of them would be left dead. Logan says that was pulled from the episode because he thinks it fits better into the framework of Season 2.
There will also be another episode that flashes back to tell one of the main character’s stories, much like the one that put the spotlight on Vanessa, arguably the greatest of the season. It will also delve deeper into the question of whether Vanessa  invited the demon to possess her or not. All of that, plus Creature will be forced to actually pick out a name.
As for further down the road, Logan says viewers will eventually see the portrait of Dorian Gray and he would one day like to explore the world of Dr. Moreau. “I would hope someday to get to the Island of Lost Souls,” Logan shares.
In the meantime, they still need to explore the reveal that Ethan is a werewolf. “In the second season, he finds out exactly what he is,” Logan says. “He’s going to have to deal with that.” That’s not all Ethan will have to deal with. The relationship and connection to his father will continue to be teased. However, it might not be until Season 3 before it’s fully explored.
Logan already has most of Season 2 written and the cast will soon start to get scripts so they can find out where, exactly, they’re headed. Strap in Dreadfuls, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
