IFC launches its latest original series on Jan. 21 with the premiere of “Portlandia,” a short-based comedy starring “Saturday Night Live’s” Fred Armisen and former Sleater Kinney singer and guitarist Carrie Brownstein.
Striking a fairly absurd tone, the six-part series is both a love letter to the city of Portland, Oregon, and a hilarious take-down of its aggressively crunchy hipster culture.
It might be a tough sell for most audiences — though maybe not for those already tuning into IFC — but if the shorts they’ve already released are any indication of what to expect from the full episodes, it should be under consideration for your Friday viewing.
