Interestingly, the pair started as frenemies. We first meet them in a club (oversized jackets and Aqua Netted hair included) as they transform the energy from their mutual hatred into a badass dance-off. But their body language is too strong, and somehow it appears the two will emerge friends after their battle is completed.

Former “Saturday Night Live” star Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney guitarist Carrie Brownstein bring the fifth season of their sketch-comedy show back to IFC with a premiere episode titled “The Story of Toni and Candace,” a half-hour that will follow the narrative of the fan-favorite characters rather than a collection of sketches skewering everyone’s favorite Oregon hipster haven.

It turns out that Toni and Candace began as rival bookstore chain executives in New York City in the early ’90s.
