barack obama leonard nimoy jedi mind meld gi President Obama's 'Star Trek' & 'Star Wars' mix up: Spock responds

Friday afternoon will go down in history as when the internet realized the president thinks “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” are the same thing. While that’s likely not the case, it’s going to be hard for the president to live this one down.
During a speech to congressional leaders, President Barack Obama talked about using a “Jedi mind meld” on fellow politicians to try to reach an agreement on the nation’s economic troubles, ABC News reports. The White House quickly jumped on board, posting a Tweet having fun with the situation. Hey, if the economic crisis is anything, it’s funny. Unfortunately, they stuck with Obama’s crossing of sci fi franchise wires.

Their tweet read “We must bring balance to the Force,” and was hash tagged “Jedi Mind Meld.”  The issue with the tweet, and the president’s speech, is Jedi’s don’t have a mind meld. They use the Force, sure, but there’s no mind meld in the “Star Wars” universe. The Vulcans, an alien race in the “Star Trek” universe, do.

Leonard Nimoy, who played the Vulcan Spock on the original “Star Trek” series, chimed in with a response to the flub, tweeting, “Only a Vulcan mind meld will help with this congress. LLAP.” LLAP is an acronym for the Vulcan salute, “Live Long and Prosper,” which is a much nicer message.
