president obama presidential debate Presidential debate: President Obama wonders if Mitt Romney's plans are 'too good' to provide detailsThe first 2012 presidential debate took place Wednesday
night (Oct. 3) at the University of Denver in Colorado. Here are some highlights from President Barack Obama:

On the economy: “Are we going to double down on the top-down economic policies that helped to get us into this mess, or do we embrace a new economic patriotism that says America does best when the middle class does best?”

On the deficit: “[Romney] is saying that his big, bold idea is ‘never mind.’ The fact is if you are lowering the rates the way you describe governor, it is not possible to come up with enough deductions or loopholes. It is math. It is arithmetic.”

On government regulations: “Does anybody out there think the big problem we had was there was too much oversight and regulation of Wall Street, because if you do then Governor Romney is your candidate.”

On Governor Romney not providing details of his plans: “Is the reason that Governor Romney is keeping all these plans to replace secret because they’re too good? Is it because middle class families are going to benefit too much from them?”
