prince-harry-south-pole-heroes-CNN.jpgWednesday (March 26) “Today” anchor Matt Lauer is hosting a special one-hour news piece on NBC that will look at Prince Harry’s recent trek to the South Pole, called “Prince Harry’s South Pole Heroes.”

The British royal was accompanied on his expedition by actors Alexander Skarsgard and Dominic West, plus a group of wounded veterans. Originally, the trek was meant to be a race between three teams (U.S., Britain and the Commonwealth), but upon discovering just how harst the conditions were, the accompanying doctors advised the teams to eliminate the race aspect and work together to accomplish their goal of reaching the South Pole.

The event was put on to help Walking With the Wounded, a U.K.-based charity that trains and educates wounded servicemen and -women after they have left the armed forces. It is one of several charities for which Prince Harry serves as patron.

Below are two videos — the first is a preview of the documentary, which was made by British network ITV, and the second is a video from when the expedition was departing from London, with interviews from various participants.

“Prince Harry’s South Pole Heroes” premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
