Prince William is taking being a parent pretty well in stride. The new father of royal baby Prince George opened up in his first interview since his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth. William admits that he was pretty happy to share his son with the world for the first time.

“I was on such a high anyway, and so was Catherine, about George, that really we were happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him,” William tells CNN. “As any new parent knows, you’re only too happy to show off your new child and, you know, proclaim that he is the best looking or the best everything.”

He adds, “It’s nice that people want to see George. I’m just glad he wasn’t screaming his head off the whole way through!”

Many spectators were surprised that William so flawlessly put his newborn’s car seat into their SUV at the hospital. He confirms reports that he did indeed practice with a car seat before the big reveal of his son.

“Believe me, it wasn’t my first time. And I know there’s been speculation about that. I had to practice, I really did. I was terrified that it was going to fall off or it wasn’t going to close properly,” he says. As for the decision for William to drive the car away on that day, he says, “I think driving your son and your wife away from the hospital was really important to me, and I don’t like fuss so it was much easier to just do it yourself.”

According to William, George could be the next troublemaker in the Royal Family.

“He’s a little bit of a rascal, let’s put it that way. So he either reminds me of my brother [Prince Harry] or me when I was younger, I’m not sure. He’s doing very well at the moment,” the prince says. “He’s growing quite quickly, but he’s a fighter. He kind of, he wriggles around quite a lot. And he doesn’t want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem.”

Though William’s plan is to raise his son to be passionate about saving African wildlife like both her and his father Prince Charles are, William has some more pressing advice for his newborn now. “At the moment, the only legacy I want to pass on to him is to sleep more and maybe not have to change his nappy quite so many times,” he says.

The interview is an excerpt from CNN’s one-hour documentary, “Prince William’s Passion: New Hope, New Father.” It’s slated to air on Sept. 16.
