The trailer for Ridley Scott‘s “Prometheus” covers all the bases for an action-movie teaser circa late 2011: A loud, repeating horn sound a la “Inception”; disorienting, super-quick editing; and maybe three lines of actual dialogue.

But we’re significantly more excited for this movie than for the scads of other would-be thrillers that have used those trailer techniques. Because what’s in those super-fast cuts, and the people involved in making “Prometheus,” looks pretty great.

The movie’s back story is that it was intended as a prequel to “Alien,” the 1979 movie on which Scott made his name as a director. That later changed, and “Prometheus” is now said to be its own story — but based on some of what’s in the trailer, it seems clearly to share the same fictional world as the “Alien” movies.

Take, for example, the shot at the 39-second mark: If that’s not the rig of the space jockey Ripley and Co. discovered at the beginning of “Alien,” then we don’t know what it is. The title graphics and other touches also remind us of “Alien” more than a little bit.

“Prometheus” stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron. It’s scheduled to open on June 8.

What do you think of the trailer?
