It’s not over, it still isn’t over, for Rachel McAdams to land the coveted female lead role in “True Detective” Season 2.
Variety reports the actress was offered the part, which also caught the eyes of Jessica Biel and Brit Marling. HBO hasn’t officially announced the casting, as McAdams is reportedly still locking down the deal.
“Mad Men’s” Elisabeth Moss seemed to be the early favorite for the role of the one female in three detectives investigating the murder of Ben Caspar, a corrupt city manager in California whose body is found with satanic symbols carved into it. Colin Farrell will play another one of the detectives, while Taylor Kitsch is said to close to landing the third.
HBO has also confirmed Vince Vaughn as the main antagonist for the season, a career criminal trying to go legit who’s pushing for a high-speed rail line that would link Northern and Southern California, and make him a hefty profit. According to Variety, his “empire is threatened when his partner [Caspar] is murdered.”
“Fast & Furious” helmer Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes of Season 2, which starts filming soon around Los Angeles. The series is being targeted for a summer 2015 premiere date.
