rihanna coachella Racial slur against Rihanna forces Dutch magazine editor to quitThe editor of the Dutch fashion magazine Jackie resigned Tuesday (Dec. 20) just days after publishing an article describing singer Rihanna’s fashion style as “n****b****.”

Eva Hoeke, who had worked at the publication for eight years, quit after becoming embroiled in the racially-charged controversy. In an article describing Rihanna’s apparel, the magazine says, “She has street cred, she has a ghetto a** and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate n****b**** and she displays that gladly — for her that means what’s on can come off. If that means she’ll be on stage half naked, then so be it.” [Note: Translated from Dutch per ONTD.]

As one might expect, this drew a strong reaction from the pop singer. She writes scathing remarks on her Twitter page and directs them at Hoeke.

“I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate!!” Rihanna writes.

Hoeke had tried to pass the whole thing off as a “joke,” but the hostility toward the publication continued. This left Hoeke only one option, to resign.

In a press release from the publication, Hoeke explains, “I realize that my first reaction through Twitter, in which I indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete description of what me, and also the author of the article, meant. The term ‘n****b****’ came from America and we solely used it to describe a style of dress…Through the course of events, me and the publisher have concluded that because my credibility is now affected, it is better for all parties if I quit my function as editor-in-chief effective immediately.”
