radiohead king of limbs Radiohead abandons 'pay what you want' with 'The King of Limbs,' out Feb. 19

Radiohead‘s progressive course through the evolving music industry takes an unexpected turn Feb. 19 with the digital release of their eighth studio album, “The King of Limbs.”

Only announced six days before it comes out, “The King of Limbs” marks a dramatic difference from the last album by the band. 2007’s “In Rainbows,” itself announced only days ahead of its drop, was available for the very ambiguous cost of “pay what you want.”

Well, that window of generosity has apparently closed. And “The King of Limbs” runs at a steeper price — especially if you’re holding out for a hard copy of the “Newspaper version” when it comes out May 9.

That one includes an advance download of the MP3s, two clear 10″ vinyl records, a CD compact disc and “many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degradeable plastic to hold it all together.” If you’re curious about what exactly that means, you’ll have to shell out $48.

For everyone content with just downloading the album when it’s released, it runs $9 for the mp3s and $14 for WAV files.

Pre-sales are being accepted now, but the new website set up for the album,, is already buckling from high traffic.
