The ex-boyfriend of Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway who was convicted of scamming investors by faking access to Vatican connections was released from prison in Pennsylvania on Friday. Raffaello Follieri is now headed back to his native Italy.
In 2008, Follieri was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison by claiming he could buy discounted church property for investors thanks to connections with officials at the Vatican. He still owes $3.6 million to the victims of his scams.
Hathaway and Follieri dated for four years. She’s now engaged to actor Adam Shulman.
Deportation is standard operating procedure, a prison official tells the Associated Press.
