Rainn Wilson (“The Office,” “Backstrom”) and his production company SoulPancake announced a new comedy project earlier this week called “Hollywood and Vine” which will follow five of the most popular personalities from the video-based social media site as they try to cross over into traditional Hollywood.
But just a few days after the show announcement, one of the original choices, Curtis Lepore, has been cut after online backlash, which stems from a rape charge being leveled against Lepore earlier this year. Wilson began looking into Lepore’s criminal history on Oct. 23, writing on Facebook, “I
understand there is a lot of outrage regarding my company working with
Curtis Lepore as part of a new project featuring Vine stars, please know
we are carefully evaluating your concerns and taking them very
Then Friday (Oct. 24), he writes, “After much consideration, the decision was made with Curtis Lepore to
mutually part ways on SoulPancake’s television project featuring Vine
stars. We felt this was the best decision for everyone involved. We
wish Curtis all the best in all his future endeavors.”
The other Vine stars attached to the project are Jerry Purpdrank, Lele Pons, Simone Shepherd and Christian DelGrosso.
