randy eviquaid 290 Randy Quaid and wife charged with buglary, not happy about itActor Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, have been formally charged with burglary after allegedly skipping out on a big hotel bill — but Evi Quaid is claiming their arrests are part of a scheme to steal the couple’s money.

The Quaids were arrested Thursday in Marfa, a small west Texas town with a sizable Hollywood connection (the 1950s movie “Giant” was filmed there, as were portions of “No Country for Old Men” and “There Will Be Blood”). They’re accused of having stiffed a hotel called the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara County, Calif., of more than $10,000.

Randy and Evi Quaid each posted $20,000 bail in Marfa — the sheriff drove them to a bank to help facilitate the process — and say they’ve already sent a check to the hotel. The couple sent TMZ a copy of a check for $5,546.96, short of what the hotel says they owe, along with a note saying the couple has paid its bill and the arrest “is all for PR.” (The note also says that “Marfa, Texas, is a great place to be arrested.”)

Restitution is great, the Santa Barbara County district attorney says, but it won’t make the case go away. Prosecutors say the couple still needs to return to California to face the charges.

Meanwhile, Evi Quaid has filed a complaint against one of the deputies who arrested her, claiming he was working in concert with the couple’s former business manager and a union official who are trying to extort the couple. Which seems to contradict the idea that Marfa is a great place to be arrested, but to each her own.
