The Virginia couple accused of crashing President Obama’s first White House state dinner – and rubbing elbows with Joe Biden and Oprah Winfrey — may face prosecution for a federal crime, CNN reports.
And it turns they’re not even real reality stars!
The Secret Service have said the Salahis crashed the White House event honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Admittedly, the agents protecting the president “did not follow proper procedures,” Secret Service agent Edwin Donovan said in a statement. But at least the gatecrashers went through metal detectors and other levels of security.
But, apparently, no one thought to ask for their invitation. Score!
The Salahis’ attorney posted a statement on the couple’s Facebook page saying their attendance at the White House affair was totally kosher.
“My clients were cleared, by the White House, to be there. More information is forthcoming,” the attorney’s post read.
But it turns out these two are also named in at least very real 16 and very different civil suits in Fauquier County, sometimes as plaintiffs, sometimes as defendants.
Tareq and Michaele Salahi also have an extensive paper trail in federal bankruptcy and state court filings.
The couple did not respond to CNN requests for comment. Yet.
