R.E.M. has asked Fox News to cease and desist from using its song “Losing My Religion” after the network played the track during its coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
Fox News cheekily used R.E.M.’s song as a way of commenting on the perceived lack of faith at the DNC.
And R.E.M. isn’t the first musical act to push back against the use of their music in the political arena this election season. The Silversun Pickups sent Mitt Romney’s campaign a cease-and-desist letter for using the song “Panic Switch” at an event. And Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider asked that Paul Ryan stop playing “We’re Not Gonna Take It” during campaign stops.
