Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords made her first return to the U.S. House of Representatives Monday (Aug. 1) for the debt ceiling bill vote. Both sides of the aisle took several minutes to pause in their business and welcome her with a standing ovation and numerous hugs and handshakes.

Giffords was the victim of an assassination attempt at a rally in her home state of Arizona back in January. The shooting left six people dead and many wounded, including Giffords, who was shot in the head. The road to recovery has been long and challenging for Gabby, but it was great to see her back in Washington.

On Giffords’ Twitter page, she wrote, “The #Capitol looks beautiful and I am honored to be at work tonight.” and Norah O’Donnell of the “CBS Evening News” announced this morning on “The Early Show,” “On the @theearlyshow this morning at 709 and 830a. @CBSNews breaking news Giffords running for re-election.”

Glad to hear Giffords is feeling strong enough to run again.
