jj abrams steven spielberg gi 320 Report: J.J. Abrams Steven Spielberg collaboration in the worksJ.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg, two of Hollywood’s most beloved creative minds, may be teaming up.

Abrams, who recently was helmsman on the “Star Trek” reboot, is going to make his next silver screen project a Spielberg tribute and collaboration, so says Vulture.

Details are hazy, as is studio confirmation. The report claims that the film will be in the vein of Spielberg’s most successful ’70s and ’80s films, where ordinary folk encounter extraordinary circumstances, possibly fantastical/science fictional.

Spielberg’s involvement seems assured since “J.J. wants to make sure Steven is properly paid homage to. This is really an interpretation of some of Spielberg’s earlier films, but done in a personal way.” No title, working or otherwise, has been released yet, much like the mystery that surrounded “Cloverfield.”

Although we don’t doubt that such a partnership could happen, Abrams would have to work hard to fit this in his schedule. It’s a good thing “Lost” is ending on ABC, but “Fringe” on FOX is still going strong, and he has that NBC “Undercovers” pilot in the works.

On the big screen, he’s producing “Mission: Impossible 4” and a Rachel McAdams comedy, along with developing a ton of other film projects such as the sequels to “Cloverfield” and “Star Trek.”

Spielberg has been wearing the executive producer hat for a while, so it would be quite fitting if he did the same for this project. As for directing, he still has “The Adventures of Tintin” coming.
