Richard Madden might have been killed off on “Game of Thrones” more than a season ago, but he still is more in-the-know about the series than the rest of the world. In fact, he knows about one big death that’s coming down the pipeline.
Even though Madden, who played Robb Stark for the first three season of “Thrones,” knows this big spoiler about Season 5, he says he tries to avoid learning what’s coming up in the new episodes — which is apparently hard when you’re friends with Kit Harington.
When Season 4 was shooting, Harington would repeatedly try to spoil plot points of the show for Madden, and some times even tell him lies. It appears the man who plays Jon Snow is continuing to ruin the show for his friend, because Madden says Harington spoils things for him “all the f***ing time.”
“I have to cover my ears so he doesn’t tell me,” Madden says with a laugh.
Fans might still be mourning Robb Stark’s Red Wedding death, but Madden has found a silver lining to his character’s demise: He can watch “Game of Thrones” as a fan.
“I can’t wait for the new season,” he says. “It’s a joy. I can just watch it and not know what’s coming next, you know? I used to read all the scripts so I knew what was happening, and now I can just watch watch it and be like, ‘What’s going next? What’s this? What’s that?'”
As fans already suspect, he confirms “there are some changes” from the George R.R. Martin novels in the books. Looking back at the lessons learned from Robb’s death, he says, “Good people never survive on ‘Game of Thrones.’ That’s the problem.”
“Game of Thrones” Season 5 premieres on April 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. “Cinderella” hits theaters on March 13.
