Andrew Embiricos, the 25-year-old grandson of screen legend Rita Hayworth, was found dead in his New York apartment on Sunday (Dec. 4) in what police are describing as an apparent suicide.
Embiricos was discovered lying face-up in his bed with a plastic bag over his head. The New York Post describes him as a “troubled party boy who infamously starred in amateur Internet porn videos.” But, according to People, Embiricos also received a degree in psychology from Fordham University and was active in Alzheimer’s research, the disease his grandmother died from in 1987.
Embiricos was the son of Hayworth’s daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, and Greek shipping heir Basil Embiricos. He struggled with drug addiction and apparently had a history of suicide attempts.
“He was always a sweet charming guy,” the Village Voice’s Michael Musto told People.
“Andrew seemed upbeat lately, according to my sources,” said Musto. “He liked his job and was planning a trip to London. His death came as a shock. He always radiated charm and personality, even when weathering some dark crises.”
