robert pattinson times talks Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart: See 'Cosmopolis' star squirm when interviewer compares their romance to Prince Charles and Lady DiIn the midst of his very public breakup with “Twilight” costar Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson has gallantly been fulfilling his promotional commitments for his new film “Cosmopolis.”

After awkward appearances on “Good Morning America” and “The Daily Show,” the publicity-plagued actor reasonably expected to avoid the drama altogether on the cerebral “Times Talks” panel with director David Cronenberg, which streamed live early Wednesday evening (Aug. 15).

But just as Pattinson proving his intellectual mettle in a discussion about fame — calling Hollywood’s “royalty” a “meritocratic” version of “real royalty — moderator David Carr interjected:

“So if you and Kristen have trouble it’s like Charles and Di having trouble?”

R.Pattz was saved by his vocal supporters in the audience, whose boos and jeers prompted Carr, a New York Times columnist, to defend himself.

“I wasn’t really going there, just so you know,” he said, before Pattinson finally answered the question.

“No, I wouldn’t go that far,” he said.

This awkward exchange occurs about an hour into an otherwise civilized conversation about ‘Cosmopolis,’ culture and philosophy — including Hegel.

But before the discussion turned into a philosophical snoozefest on absolute idealism, Edward Cullen came to the rescue with a shout-out to “Calvin and Hobbes.”
