The couple, who’ve been married since 2005, announced on Monday (Feb. 24) that they have decided to end their marriage.
“We will always love each other and be best friends, however we have mutually decided to separate at this time,” the two tell People in a joint statement.
Thicke and Patton, who first met when the “Blurred Lines” singer was just 14, share a son, Julian Fuego Thicke, who was born in April 2010.
The marriage faced criticism last year after Thicke’s antics at the MTV Video Music Awards, including his explicit performance with Miley Cyrus and his grabbing of a fan’s rear end post-show. However they both tried to wave it away with loud public professions of love.
Are you surprised that Thicke and Patton are calling it quits?
