“Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” looks to soon have competition for the weirdest (or worst) idea for a musical. Sylvester Stallone announced on Monday (Nov. 21) that he’s looking to turn “Rocky” in to a musical.
Now please take a minute to digest this concept. Ok, now let’s resume.
Stallone, who wrote and starred in the 1976 Oscar-winning film will co-produce “Rocky: The Musical” according to the Daily Mail. The production will focus on the love story between Rocky and Adrian rather than the boxing theme the movie presented.
Stallone says, “I’ve always thought Rocky had the right stuff for a musical and have wanted to do it for a long time.”
The musical, which is slated to open in Nov. 2012 in Hamburg, Germany, will employ the skills of Tony-award winner Thomas Meehan (“The Producers”) to write the story and Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty to handle the music.
Of course the play will feature the movie’s biggest hits like “Eye of the Tiger” and the Rocky theme “Gonna Fly Now.”
But Zappers, would you want to see it?
